Television - Understanding the Liquid Crystal Display Technology

The Televisions that use Liquid Crystal Display for an improved image quality are termed as the LCD Televisions. This is one of the latest inventions of technologies in TV and computer monitors. LCD televisions are easy on the eye and the intensity of strain to the eye balls is greatly reduced. Thus they make prolonged viewing much more comfortable and stress free. In common parlance it can be said that there is a liquid in the screen and we see the image on the liquid screen.

Broadly, this modern technology uses thin film transistors to monitor voltages to the individualized pixels. Here the transistors constantly regulate voltage to three liquid crystal sub pixels of red, green and blue, which in turn control light dispersion through the wafer thin panel. But to be precise, LCD technology is based on the utilization of specified polarized lights.

In this mechanism the pixels are actually the segregation of thin liquid crystalline gels which get sandwiched by two polarized panels. The separated pixels then get activated with the activation and stimulation of X/Y grid, a bunch of wires connected to them. The amount of voltage applied to the X/Y grid is directly proportional to the darkening of the pixels which in turn get polarized at 90 degrees, and thus to obtain a brighter appearance relatively lower voltage should be applied to the pixels and similarly for dark shadow area the pixels get a higher voltage from the grid. Irrespective of the voltage fluctuation a constant flow of charge keeps on passing through the pixels even at the absolute dark LCD pixel.

The patterned vertical alignment or PVA and the super patterned vertical alignment or the SPVA technology is an added advantage of LCD televisions. The PVA and S-PVA offer a better and improved dark depth, and a wide viewing angles up to 178 degrees and S-PVA can offer additionally fast response times. An upgraded and dynamic contrast ratio or the ratios between brightest colors to that of the darkest shades are also proficiently delivered by the PVA and S-PVA LCD panels which offer a clear balanced and highly monitored display at any intensity of light at the surrounding. Thus each and every pixel emits consecutive lights to set intensity of the picture.

Today a number of companies are offering these manifold offerings with LCD technology and are marketing world wide. The prices vary with the manufacturer and so too the added features. Such as, Samsung is offering a high contrast ratio nearly 3000:1 with value-oriented PVA panels. Their S-PVA panels do not apply color simulation or replication methods instead they use true electronics of 8-bit colors. Another new company Eizo uses even 10-bit colors and upgraded S-PVA panels.

With these entire multiple and diverse benefits the most important caution against the usage of this liquid crystal display suggested by the authorities must be followed by the users. Such as, the liquid crystal inside the display are much toxic and can be fatal at times if it comes at a close contact with the skin or at any wounded area of the body part or even with the clothes. It must not be ingested either. In case of accident, if spills occur, the area should be cleaned with soap and water immediately. However, there is a very low risk of such an accident taking place and there is no need of panic. Only if someone is totally irresponsible will he tear open the screen and cause an accident!

It has been said that the improvement and advancement of LCD technology has increased the customer expectancy towards the quality resolution at a reasonable market price of this gadget and a minimal power consumption at the same time.

Why You Need To Get A Wii

Did you know you can now download games for the Nintendo Wii? This is great news for owners of Nintendo's amazing new system. But what if you don't have a Wii yet? Read on to find out why the Wii is so hard to find, and why you need to get one!

The Nintendo Wii is the most popular gaming system on the planet, the sales figures speak for themselves. So popular in fact, that over Christmas the system was so hard to find, communities formed on the internet to help consumers find stores that had the system in stock.

So why is it so popular? It's not the processing power of the system, that's for sure. In comparison to the other new generation consoles, it is by far the weakest in terms of graphics and processing power.

It's not even the unique motion control system. Although it is a new and exciting way to play games, using the motion controllers is not a requirement of any of the games, and while you see people on the TV ads jumping around their living rooms and swinging their arms about, it is not necessary to play any of the games (although it does make them a lot more fun!) All the games can be played with minimal movement and with just as much skill sitting down on the couch just like every other console.

The real reason the Wii is so popular is Nintendo's move from targeting gamers to targeting non-gamers. The Wii is a fun gaming console, but it's also a great way to get exercise, whether it's playing sports games to custom fitness software available for the system. It's a great way to study and brush up on cognitive and hand-eye co-ordination skills using the variety of 'brain games' available for the system, in combination with the motion sensitive controls. It's a hit at parties and gatherings with the new wave of 'party games', pitting friends against each other in amusing and fun challenges that anyone can pick up and play with no prior knowledge and no gaming experience.

If you were one of the lucky ones to have scored a Wii for Christmas or managed to score one before the seasonal rush, congratulations, you've got many years of quality gaming and media ahead of you. If you still don't have a Wii, it's time to get out and find one. The post Christmas stocks are in, so get out there and get with the new gaming revolution.

Terminator - A History of the Game

The first Terminator game released for DOS PCs in 1990. In the game you could either play as Kyle Reese who was assigned to protect Sarah or as the Terminator whose sole duty was to terminate her. When Terminator 2: Judgment Day was released in 1991, it was a huge hit and was regarded as one of best sci-fi movies to have ever been made. So it was hardly surprising that a number of video game developers tried to cash in on the success of Terminator II, and developed video games that more or less faithfully stuck to the plot of the movie.

Of all the all games pre 1995 games, The Terminator released by Virgin Games got the best reviews and not surprisingly sold the most copies as well. The game had a decent storyline which cleverly blended the plots of the Terminator (Part 1) and The Robocop Vs. The Terminator, a comic book published by Dark Horse Comics. Another well designed video game was The Terminator: Rampage on the PC, which was released in 1993 by Bertha Softworks. In the game, SkyNet goes back in time to wreak havoc on inhabitants of the 20th century. It was basically a first person shooter and quite an interesting one at that. So if you enjoyed the all time classic Wolfenstein, then you are sure to like this one as well.

In 2003 when the world was bracing itself to watch an aged, shriveled up (Thank God, I don't live in California) Terminator battle the luscious Kristanna Loken in Terminator: The Rise of Machines, Infogames made hay while the sun shone by releasing Terminator: Dawn of Fate for PS2 and Xbox. In the game the player gets to play as Kyle Reese and have to complete a number of challenging missions and protect the world from being taken over by evil machines.

After the movie hit the cinema halls in 2003, Terminator 3:War of the Machines was released by Atari. The game was developed for PS2, Xbox and Game Boy Advance. A PC version was also released soon after. After a slew of Terminator games, most of which had players play as other characters, this game finally let gamers play as the Terminator himself.

In 2004, Terminator 3: The Redemption was released for GameCube, PS2 and Xbox. Though the game is a spin-off of the T3 movie but has several interesting sub plots, which suggest that there was much more action in movie than was shown to the audience. (So play the game to experience the vials of adrenaline that mysteriously went missing from the movie)

All the Terminator movies were so successful, because they had a hidden message: Machines if they are allowed to rule our lives will soon take over the planet...or something to that effect. But seriously who gives a damn when you have a PS2, a copy of the Rise of the machines and some free time to raise hell and blast away the baddies.

Nintendo Wii - Its Successes and Its Failures

Nintendo has caught everyone, even themselves by surprise after the unbelievable success of their Wii console. A year before it's release, many experts predicted that the industry leaders at the time, Microsoft and Sony, would eat them alive with their hugely powerful machines and huge marketing budgets. After the generation that saw the death of the Sega Dreamcast and saw the Gamecube struggle to move units, many industry experts assumed that big companies that can throw a lot of money at advertising will in the end prevail. Nintendo has proven that if you just show a bit of innovation and take a bit of a risk, you can do anything.

The first thing that you think of when someone mentions the Wii, is the very original approach Nintendo took with regards to the "control pad" or, more accurately, the "control remote." The creative team acknowledged that they couldn't match it with the big guns when it came to a regular console, so they began thinking outside the box to offer an affordable console that was also unlike anything we'd seen before.

Unfortunately, such a move was always going to be met by criticism for various reasons. Many are of the belief that game developers are struggling to work out what to do with the unique control system, and that there aren't as many quality games as there are on the Xbox 360 and PS3. This is a fair criticism. A quick skim through the games available for the Wii will leave many feeling quite underwhelmed. While there are a few top quality games on the system, many are sick of poor quality party games that get thrown together in a month.

The other problem Nintendo are currently having is that there simply aren't enough consoles available to meet demand. This just goes to show that the success of the console has even caught the company off guard. There are reports that the lack of consoles has cost Nintendo upwards of $1 billion in sales. Not to mention the fact that many will just elect to buy a much easier to find PS3 or Xbox 360 instead.

Regardless of the criticism's, Nintendo seem to be comfortably in the battle this generation. Not only are they outselling the 360 and PS3, but they're obliterating them. With more than 3 million consoles moved compared to the 360 (even though it's been out a year longer) and more than 11 million consoles than the PS3 as of the 29th of December 2007. That should say one thing to us all: After two consoles that lost out to the respective PlayStation systems, Nintendo are back.
